SILT was honored to host international author and activist Raj Patel in July as he and his Malawian guests -farmer Annita Chitaya and nurse Esther Lupafya – traveled the U.S. talking to Americans about what climate change is doing to their country and about the relations and roles between men and women in farming.
SILT connected the film crew with young corn and bean farmer Tyler Franzenburg, veteran vegetable farmer Denise O’Brien, and managed livestock farmers Ed and Tricia Jackson. They dined on Denise’s vegetables at Sweet Joy Shoppe in Atlantic and in Crescent on a sumptuous meal planned and cooked by Abby and Lydia Jackson, while their brother Eli helped host the farm tour of Hickory Hills Land and Livestock.
