Loess Hills Farm

Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Honey Creek, Iowa, Loess Hills Farm holds a rich history spanning nearly a century. Originally known as the “Loess Hills Young People’s Farm,” this historic property was lovingly stewarded by previous owners Joe and Susan Driscoll.

The Driscoll Legacy:

Joe Driscoll, a lifelong architectural restorationist, inherited the farm from his father and envisioned it as a sanctuary for sustainable farming. However, financial challenges loomed, prompting Joe to seek assistance from the Sustainable Iowa Land Trust (SILT). In 2015, SILT intervened, securing the farm and offering a lifeline to Joe’s dream of preserving the land for future generations.

A Vision Realized:

In a heartening turn of events, the farm found new caretakers in Tanna and John Piniarski in 2022. Their deep-rooted passion for sustainable agriculture aligns perfectly with SILT’s mission. Despite market pressures, the Piniarskis committed to cultivating the land sustainably, embracing the responsibility of stewardship with unwavering dedication.

A Shared Journey:

The journey of Loess Hills Farm embodies the essence of community, resilience, and hope. From Joe’s determined efforts to SILT’s intervention, and now the Piniarskis’ earnest endeavors, this farm continues to stand as a beacon of sustainable agriculture. As the Piniarskis labor to breathe new life into the soil, they honor a legacy built on love for the land and a vision of a more sustainable future.
