Hennings Donate Easements on 293 acres

Beth Henning, pictured here and representing the Henning Sisters Ltd. Partnership, donated two easements on these beautiful acres in Northwest Iowa (one farm in Calhoun County and one in Greene County) to SILT this week. The partnership incurred a significant drop in the value of its land in exchange for permanent protection for sustainable food production, a drop in value that will help the next generation afford to purchase it. SILT Receives 63 Acres in Johnson County

  SILT founders Paul Durrenberger and Suzan Erem signed over the deed to their 63 acres just north of Iowa City at a reception attended by county supervisors and staff, SILT advisers and friends at the Iowa City Public Library Oct. 4. Foodie Fest 2018 A Big Hit!

Guests enjoyed SILT's first Foodie Fest and first live-streamed event with promises of a bigger, broader event next year celebrating local foods and farms. Foodie Fest 2018 at the Windsor Heights Community Center drew an estimated 100 people and many new friends to SILT's mission of protecting land to grow healthy food. Welcome SILT’s New Farm Specialist

In a giant leap toward effective landowner services, SILT hired Joe Klingelhutz of Solon as its first Farm and Realty (FARM) Specialist Sept. 4. Joe is a recent graduate of Iowa State University (Magna cum laude) with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Forestry. He has spent his summers working at vegetable farms such as Sundog Farm and Wildwoods Farm, and ran a forestry crew in the Western U.S. His undergraduate work included hands-on experience with Iowa State's Prairie STRIPS project and riparian buffers.  "This is a great opportunity for SILT to offer full-time, professional consultations to [...]

Solstice Party Goers Brave the Weather

Nearly unpredictable storms dropped inches of rain all across Iowa as party-goers took their chances to attend the SILT Solstice Party at This Old Barn in Fairfield June 20. Spring Thaw Concert a Big Hit!

SILT Executive Director Suzan Erem addresses the audience between performances. Nearly 100 people attended SILT's first Spring Thaw Concert at The Mill in Iowa City March 30 to hear Dave Moore, Steve and Michaela McLain and a surprise appearance by Randy Davis. The concert filled the house as guests enjoyed free ReUnion Brewery beer and Wild Culture Kombucha while supplies lasted thanks to sponsorships by those to companies.
